I have to mention our (apparently) want away captain. As I write this (on Sunday) many people seem to think it’s a forgone conclusion that he’ll be in Madrid next season. Well I for one don’t buy it. There’s just so much inconsistency in the stories. As I understand it his agent had a meeting in Madrid on Wednesday, whilst he was actually in England. Vieira stopped off in England on Wednesday on the way from America to France (quite logical really for someone with a house in London) and had a meeting with his agent, so obviously he’s going.
Then you’ve got Arseblog and ANR reporting he was back at Colney on Friday to clear his locker (according to their sources), whilst the News of the Screws and other papers sources say he was there doing it Thursday. Apparently Vieira’s Madrid’s #1 choice, even though Camancho wants to sign Emerson more. Oh yes, and he wants to leave because the team needs new players in defence / can’t win the Champions League / he needs a new challenge / he wants to play with Zizou / everyone wants to play for Madrid (play newspapers at home – choose one theory and make up 500 words to justify).
Hmmm. Well I’ve consulted my sauces and HP says he’s staying, whilst Horseradish (quoting a friend of a friend of a plant Paddy once walked near) says he’s off to Madrid.
So there you have it, straight from the sauces mouth.
Actually, being serious I do know someone with contacts at the club. And I have asked them about it. Whilst the only people that really know if there’s anything in it are Vieira, Dein and Wenger, my ‘contact’s’ considered opinion was ‘cobblers’. Well that’s not exactly what he said, but you get the drift…
There is one thing I can talk about with absolute certainty though, and that’s one bit in the screws saying Wenger and Dein had an ‘animated’ conversation on the pitch before kick off. Well I watched that conversation and to be honest I get more animated buying a newspaper! The championship trophy was brought onto the pitch for photos. Dein and Wenger had their picture taken, then lots of others did. Whilst people were milling around Dein and Wenger stood a couple of yards away and had a chat. Shock! Horror! Club Manager and Director talk to each other. And that my friends, is the only bit of reporting about all this that I can guarantee you is 100% accurate.
