Top 5 Arsenal LEGENDS who Wenger could do with right now!

Let’s be honest, we’ve been spoilt when it comes to legends and fan favourites during Arsenal’s glorious history. From Cliff Bastin to Frank McLintock to more modern day icons such as Thierry Henry and Aaron Ramsey.

During the difficult transition period between Highbury to the Emirates, we have all, at times, wished for one our former greats to return in the peak of their careers and help the club not lose the League Cup to Birmingham City, for example.

We kind of got our wish when Arsenal’s leading goalscorer of all-time Thierry Henry returned and gave us a couple more wonderful moments. However, he was no Benjamin Button and he wasn’t the same Titi that left us, of course.

Anyway, given the current squad’s injury situation, which FIVE former Gunners, in their peak, would you want back?

Lee Dixon

When your right-back options are an injured Mathieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers who has less than 30 Premier League appearances and the extremely raw Hector Bellerin, I think we’d all accept Oleg Luzhny back at this point!

Dixon, like all of that famous back four, was remarkably consistent, something our current backline desperately needs.

Liam Brady

I wasn’t lucky enough to grow up in an era where Liam Brady played, however, out of all the stories I hear about players from our past, none catch the glint in the eye of the older Arsenal fans more so when recollecting Brady is his peak. It would be honour to see the former midfielder strut his stuff nowadays.

Dennis Bergkamp

Every side needs a DB10.

Gilberto Silva

The talk continually seems to be that Arsenal never replaced Patrick Vieira in the middle of the park. However, the truth is, it is the ‘invisible wall’ Gilberto Silva that we never found a replacement more.

Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini just can’t offer the same sort of protection that the former Brazlian international offered.

Tony Adams

Per Mertesacker is reportedly a big dressing room presence, a leader and a respected figure amongst his team-mates; I’m not doubting that for a second but the BFG doesn’t seem to get too riled up on the pitch.

Having ‘Mr Arsenal’ himself back amongst the ranks with his war cries will have added a bit of much needed leadership within the starting XI.
