Shay Given claims it’s possible Newcastle can sign Alexis Sanchez should their takeover go through.
The winger came close to a £60m deadline day switch to Manchester City this past summer, but the deal fell through after Arsenal’s failure to land a suitable replacement.
Now Sanchez is expected to remain at the Emirates until the end of the season, to which he will be able to leave for free.
But according to Given, Newcastle could come into the mix if Amanda Staveley or any other investor takes control of the club from Mike Ashley.
Ashley is looking to cash in after a volatile tenure at the club and Given says the potential of added investment given to Rafa Benitez could entice Sanchez to Tyneside.
As reported by the Daily Star, the Newcastle legend who made over 350 appearances for the club between 1997-2009 said: “If the investors come in and have got endless amounts of money, they could sign [Alexis] Sanchez, for example.
“It depends who these new owners are.
“I’m not saying he’ll go there and they could instead trawl down the bottom part of the league – you just don’t know how much money they’ll have.
“When you look at Sheikh Mansour when he came to Manchester City and signed Robinho.
“Will these people have that money to spend or will it be a bit more of shopping down the ladder?”
