Arsenal boss Unai Emery has hinted that he doesn’t believe his side will finish in the top four.

The Spaniard saw his side lose away from home for the third time in four trips on the road and the Gunners are now six points adrift of fourth placed Chelsea.

Declan Rice scored the only goal of the gameĀ at the London Stadium, meaning Emery’s side are without an away league win since November.

Last week, the former Sevilla and PSG boss admitted there are no funds for the club to make permanent transfer signings this window. It’s cut through the heart of Arsenal fans who had expected some serious reinforcements to arrive in January.

After their latest set back away to the Hammers, Emery has accepted that a lack of consistency is likely to be Arsenal’s downfall in their pursuit for a return to Champions League football.

“I think the most important thing for us is to recover our confidence and be more competitive. We need consistency over 38 matches,” he said (via Sky Sports).

“Now it isn’t enough at the moment. West Ham was a bad result. If we can win today we are playing against Chelsea with a three-point maximum distance.

“The big opportunity for us was that we can take in our hands the possibility to be closer to them. This result makes that more difficult.”
