Arsenal boss Unai Emery has revealed why Mesut Ozil was left out during the club’s 2-0 win over Chelsea.

The Gunners star returned to the squad, but could only make the substitutes bench as Arsenal revived their top four hopes.

And Ozil, who is reportedly on rocky terms with Emery, remained on the bench having not played any part since Boxing Day.

His future at the Emirates is up in the air but the club have so far failed to offload the £350,000-a-week star.

“He was OK to play but we decided not to play him,” Emery said (via Express),

As for Ozil, the midfielder took to socal media after the game to praise his team-mates as they closed the gap on Chelsea to just three points.

He wrote on Instagram : “Congratulations to the whole team tonight. Well played, Gunners”
