Unai Emery says Arsenal can be “home” for Mesut Ozil following his retirement from international football.

The German sensationally quit the DFB after a row broke out following a picture taken with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, with the player claiming to have experienced “racism and disrespect.”

Ozil, who claimed Germany’s Player of the Year on five occasions was heavily criticised following the countries dismal World Cup campaign, which saw them knocked out in the group stages.

“We are going to help him feel good and show his quality with us,” said Emery (via BBC Sport).

Ozil said he received threats and hate mail after the photographs with Erdogan were published.

The Spaniard, who was appointed in May as Arsene Wenger’s successor added: “Mesut has the respect of every player here.”

“All of us want to help Mesut feel like it is his home here with us – like a family, and it is a family for every player.”

The 29 year-old will be aiming to improve on the four goals and eight assists he achieved in the Premier League last season.
