Arsenal boss Unai Emery has revealed the reason he chose to exclude Mesut Ozil from his matchday sqaud against West Ham.

Ozil was left out by the Spaniard as the Gunners lost 1-0 thanks to a Declan Rice winner at the Olympic Stadium.

Arsenal are now six points behind Chelsea who occupy fourth in the race for Champions League football next season.

Emery has backed his decision to omit Ozil, believing his picked the players who ‘deserved’ to be in the squad.

“I decided that the players I have here were the best for this match. We have won with him [Ozil], we have lost with him, he is not one player that is for sale,” said the Arsenal manager.

“We know we can’t lose him.

“I can say he is working this week normally

“I just said we have won and lost with him and today the players here were the players who deserved to be in this match and with them we can win, but we lost.”

Ozil’s agent Dr Erkut Sogut recently claimed his star was happy at the Emirates and has no desire to leave.
