Arsenal boss Unai Emery has come out and defended his reported fractious relationship with Mesut Ozil.

Last month, rumours surfaced that a bust up between the manager and Ozil led to the German being dropped for the visit of West Ham.

Ozil later returned to the Gunners side and impressed in the 3-2 victory over Cardiff City a fortnight ago.

The 29 year-old, who in February extended his contract at the Emirates in a deal worth £350,000-per-week, seems to be returning to form. Ozil streered home Alexandre Lacazette’s rebounded effort at St James’ Park on Saturday to make it 2-0 just before the hour mark.

Following on from the 2-1 victory, Emery insists he works well with Ozil.

“[We get on] very well,” Emery said (via BBC Sport). “I push him for improvements to give us the best in his qualities and performances.”

“Mesut, like other players, works very well here and [is] also working… together to improve things.”
