Arsenal go head to head with Watford on Monday night.
Ahead of the game, Gunners boss Unai Emery has revealed Watford manager Javi Garcia was the first person he called before taking his new position.
The two coaches became friends while both were still players more than 20 years ago at Real Sociedad.
They spent a season together playing together and a strong bond was formed which has lasted ever since and both are now passionate about English football.
The Watford training ground is also next door to Arsenal’s base in Hertfordshire and the pair have been out to dinner, although the friendship will be on hold when their teams meet on Monday night.
As reported by the Mirror, Emery said: “So when the possibility opened up to sign here, the first coach, the first person in the football world I called was him.
Both are enjoying success in English football in their own right. Since taking the Watford job 18 months ago, Garcia has the Hornets sitting pretty in the middle of the table and having booked their place in this year’s FA Cup final.
As for Emery, the Gunners boss has Arsenal in the crunch stages of the Europa League and in the thick of a fight for a top four finish.
