Unai Emery has convinced Denis Suarez that his future lies at Arsenal as the Gunners close in on a loan deal for the Barcelona winger, according to reports.
Suarez worked under the Spaniard when he went on loan to Sevilla in the 2014/15 season. Together, the pair won the Europa League.
Barcelona had originally wanted to sell Suarez, but now Goal.com report that Arsenal are on the verge of agreeing a loan deal with an obligation to make the move permanent in the summer.
If a deal is to be done for Suarez, with Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu assuring the midfielder he can go, it will have to be a loan switch.
On Thursday, Gunners boss Emery revealed the club have no transfer funds for permanent players.
“I don’t know about his situation,” said the Gunners boss on Suarez. “But we can only sign players on loan.
“I know the club is working to find players who can help us, with this condition. I know these players and they are very good players.
“But I cannot sign more.”
