Former Arsenal favourite Robin van Persie finished in textbook Robin van Persie fashion in Vincent Kompany’s testimonial match.

Van Persie was appearing for The Premier League All-Stars at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City Legends.

Watch below as the Dutchman hits a superb low and powerful finish into the corner to make it 2-1 to the Premier League All Stars in tonight’s testimonial match for Vincent Kompany.

Van Persie, who acrimoniously left Arsenal for Manchester United in 2012, only retired from football at the end of last season, and is clearly as sharp as ever tonight, having also assisted an earlier goal for Robbie Keane.

The Dutchman spent eight years at Arsenal (2004 – 2012), but his decision to leave for Manchester United sent Arsenal fans into outrage.

Subsequently, RVP was a pivotal part in their Premier League title win in 2013 – Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season at the helm.

He recently spoke of his desire to resign for Arsenal, however, when a contract wasn’t forthcoming, he was forced to seek an opportunity elsewhere.

Robin van Persie was Arsenal Player of the Season 2011/12

Last month, he told BT Sport: “You can compare me being at Arsenal to being married. Me and my wife – Arsenal – were married for eight years.

“After eight years, my wife, possibly got a bit tired of me. Those are the facts.

“If Arsenal are not offering you a new deal…you can have different views on things but the fact is Arsenal never offered me a new deal.

“Then you have to look around. I was ambitious. I still wanted to win the league. That is life.”
