Arsenal made it through to the knockout stages of the Champions League for the 17th consecutive season on Tuesday night in spectacular fashion, coming back from 2-0 down to beat Bulgarian side Ludogorets 3-2.

The Gunners conceded two quickfire goals after 15 minutes before a replying through Granit Xhaka and Olivier Giroud to make it 2-2 at the break.

After a nail-biting second half, the in-form Mesut Ozil was on hand with minutes to go to fire the visitors through to the knockout stages with a superb solo goal.

The hosts took the lead after 11 minutes when ‘keeper David Ospina opted to stay on his line instead of coming for a cross allowing Jonathan Cafu to finish from close range.

Their lead was then doubled minutes later when Claudiu Keseru finished from six-yards-out to make it an uphill battle for Arsene Wenger’s side.

However, Granit Xhaka popped up with a mature finish after – surprise surprise – Mesut Ozil found the Swiss midfielder with a smart cross.

Frenchman Olivier Giroud, making his first start of the season, headed home from Aaron Ramsey’s cross just before the interval to restore hope for the travelling fans.

The second half was a nervy affair, with the Bulgarian outfit looking ever dangerous on the break forcing Ospina to make some important saves.

With just minutes remaining, Ozil broke the offside trap and found himself clean through before executing a memorising chip over the ‘keeper, sending two defenders for an early shower and claiming the three points for the Gunners.
