Arsene Wenger has aired his disappointment in his side following Arsenal’s 2-1 home defeat to Ostersunds.

The Gunners are through to the next stage of the Europa League after narrowly sparing themselves of an embarrassing exit.

Arsenal’s 3-0 first-leg victory ensured progression but Wenger was far from impressed after giving some fringe players the chance to prove themselves.

Speaking after the game, the boss said: “In the first half we were in trouble and danger because we were complacent, not focused. We were open when we lost the ball and had no ideas when we had the ball. That’s why we were in trouble,” he said.

Arsenal through, but Wenger left disappointed

“We prepared in a serious way. But you have external circumstances – like the fact we won the first leg 3-0 and we have a big game on Sunday – and people subconsciously think they just have to turn up to win.

“But it doesn’t work like that. We played against a good side.

“We have seen in the FA Cup many times upsets like that. We were not at the level we demanded.”

Wenger is anticipated to deploy a much changed side for Arsenal’s League Cup final tie with Man City this Sunday.

In fact, Hector Bellerin and David Ospina could be the only players tol maintain their starting places for the clash.

A win will seal Wenger’s first League Cup triumph during his two decade stint in north London.
