Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on Alex Iwobi, claiming the Gunners forward has made “unbelievable” progress over the past 12 months.

Iwobi, who is a graduate of the Arsenal academy has at times been picked ahead of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil this season.

Last week, the Nigerian struck twice for his national side to inspire an incredible fightback as the Super Eagles came from 2-0 down to beat Argentina 4-2.

Wenger says the young attacker still has a fair way to go before becoming the complete article, but is excited by his potential.

“I think Alex is a player who grows regularly,” said the Arsenal boss (via football.london)

“This season, for the first time he’s adding what we want from him – goals – to his qualities, which are exceptional.

“Overall I think he has a good attitude and now he becomes efficient in front of goal as well. This kind of experiences like the one against Argentina will help him even more to grow.

“Before he rushed his finishing but his finishes against Argentina showed composed finishing of a guy who knows what he’s doing, and with his left foot as well.

“He’s worked a lot on his finishing and he’s improved a lot. Compared to one year ago, the difference in unbelievable.”

Iwobi stepped off the bench during Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham last weekend.

The 21 year-old, who has been with the club since 2004 is expected to be part of the furniture at the Emirates for years to come.
