Arsenal sealed their place in the FA Cup final with a 2-1 victory over Manchester City yesterday and Arsene Wenger had some positive comments to share after the result.

The Gunners fell behind to Sergio Aguero’s opening goal but saw Nacho Monreal equalise with a stunning volley, before Alexis Sanchez netted the winner in extra-time; his fourth Arsenal goal at Wembley, which is a club record.

Alexis’ future continues to occupy space in the gossip columns of the European press but Arsene Wenger, speaking after the game, stated that the Chilean would remain at Arsenal for next season.

“Alexis Sanchez was like the team, he had problems to start with and became stronger and stronger. He is an animal, always ready to kill the opponent. He will never give up.

“He will be here next year because he has a contract with us and hopefully we will manage to extend it.”

Wenger’s adamance that Alexis will still be an Arsenal player next season is a huge boost, although it is risky as it would potentially allow the Chilean to join a Premier League rival for free at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.
