Sign William Carvalho. It is as simple as that.

Long linked with a move for the Portuguese midfielder, Arsene Wenger and club have been in limbo as the whether the acquire the services of the highly rated defensive midfielder for years.

Umming and ahhing over whether the fee is right. Pondering on whether or not he would fit into the Arsenal line up. Cogitating on the futures of Francis Coquelin and Granit Xhaka.

Enough musing, the time to take action is now.

Carvalho now must be considered one of the world’s most reliable and well experience defensive midfielders. Despite only being 25 years of age, Carvalho has had five solid seasons with Sporting Lisbon at the heart of their midfield and as vice-Captain, and has earned nearly 40 caps for Portugal, representing them at both the World Cup in 2014 and Euro 2016. Portugal of course won the latter, and Carvalho started all A Selecção’s games – besides the semi-final which he missed through suspension – and was integral in his country’s 1-0 victory over France in the final.

Tenacious in the tackle, a powerful runner with the ball, a composed passer and an acute sense of where to be on the pitch, Carvalho is the defensive midfielder that Arsenal want, and more importantly, need.
