Arsene Wenger insists he is no longer interested in signing West Brom defender Jonny Evans.

The centre-half has established himself as a vital member of Tony Pulis’ side and has become a leader at the heart of the defence.

Arsenal were reportedly keen on bringing the former Manchester United man to The Emirates this summer, but West Brom rejected a bid of £25m.

The Baggies are preparing to face Arsenal at The Emirates on Monday night. Speaking ahead of the game, Arsene Wenger refuted suggestions he may go back in for Evans in the future.

“No,” said the Frenchman.

“Once the transfer period is over, you focus on your squad and your players.

“You accept that as well from the players who play for their club.”

Earlier in the week, the Gunners boss revealed how he attempted to sign Evan’s teammate Gareth Barry while the Englishman was at Aston Villa.

Barry has since revealed that Wenger also tried to recruit him in 2014 prior to his move to Everton.

The two time Premier League winner is set to surpass Ryan Giggs’ 633 league games – it will be a new record.
