Arsene Wenger does not believe Jack Wilshere needs to leave Arsenal to make Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad.

The Arsenal midfielder has recently returned from a long layoff and has impressed Arsenal fans in each of his three games so far.

Wilshere who has had a dreadful run of injuries at The Emirates is desperate to become a mainstay in the Gunners midfield.

So far the England international has been restricted to Europa League and domestic cup games and the limited appearances have cast doubt on an England recall.

The 25 year-old has been tipped for a January move but Arsene Wenger believes his prodigy can make the World Cup if he stays at the club.

“He is very close now to being considered, like anyone else.

“He doesn’t necessarily have to leave Arsenal to go to the World Cup. I think if he keeps going like he’s going at the moment, he will go to the World Cup, I’m sure.

“I don’t see Jack being fully fit and not going to the World Cup.”

Wilshere is unlikely to start against Watford on Saturday but could make the bench for the tie at Vicarage Road.
