Arsene Wenger committed ‘career suicide’ when he failed to sign N’golo Kante.
That’s the view of French pundit Gilles Favard.
Wenger attempted to bring Kante to the Emirates following Leicester’s Premier League triumph in 2016.
The Gunners were in the race for his signature alongside Chelsea and Tottenham, with the Frenchman ultimately choosing the Blues in a £30m deal.
Arsenal legend Wenger later revealed how it was the second time he tried to tie Kante to a deal – the first while he was playing for Caen in France.
And as reported by Metro Sport, Favard, who has worked as an advisor at Nantes and Bordeaux, claims Wenger paid a high price for missing out on the 27-year-old.
‘People around this table know how profound my respect is for Arsene Wenger, but N’Golo Kante participated in the retirement of Arsene Wenger,’ Favard told L’Équipe du Soir. ‘The day that Wenger decided not sign Kante, he committed career suicide.
