Arsene Wenger has confirmed the reports that the Gunners are in negotiations with Mesut Ozil over a new contract.

It appeared the playmaker was dead set on leaving the Emirates with his contract due to expire at the end of the season.

Both Ozil and Alexis Sanchez have been the target of moves away. However, Wenger has today revealed the club have made a last ditch attempt to pen Ozil to a new deal.

As reported by the Express, the Gunners boss said: “Negotiations are always going on with everybody,” he said.

“Our door is always open. For the rest, I can not tell you much more.”

Ozil has been in good form in recent weeks. The ex-Real Madrid man has been linked with a move to Manchester United for some time and it appeared a January bid from Jose Mourinho’s side beckoned.

It remains to be seen as to whether the Red Devils will continue their pursuit.
