Mesut Ozil and the Arsenal hierarchy have re-entered contract negotiations and the German could sign a new deal with the club.

It appeared Ozil was almost certain to leave the club with just over six months left of his current deal remaining.

The playmaker, who has endured a rollercoaster relationship with Arsenal fans, pundits and former players has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and a reunion with ex-boss Jose Mourinho.

However, Arsene Wenger reiterated his desire to keep both Ozil and Alexis Sanchez this week and at least for the former, progress is seemingly being made.

Extending Mesut Ozil’s current deal may not excite Jack Wilshere as much as everybody else. It’s no secret that the 25 year-old’s preferred position is at No 10, while Wenger recently admitted Ozil is keeping Jack out of the team.

Like the German, Wilshere’s contract expires at the end of the season. If Ozil does commit to new deal in the coming weeks, with the World Cup on the horizon Wilshere may put more thought into signing on the dotted line himself.
