To say that it hasn’t been the best of starts to the season for Arsenal would be something of an understatement. After three matches the Gunners sit rock bottom of the Premier League table with zero points, but is Mikel Arteta the man to turn things around?

Three Premier League matches, three losses, it doesn’t get much worse than that. Arsenal started the season with a two-nil loss to Championship play-off winners Brentford at the Brentford Community Stadium, which was certainly an unlucky Friday the 13th for them.

Then came the first home game of the season. Another two-nil loss, this time at the hands of Champions League holders Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium.

To complete the hat-trick of losses, a five-nil loss at the Etihad Stadium against last year’s Premier League winners Manchester City, in a match that saw Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka sent off and many Novibet Sports punters count their winnings.

So that’s three games. Three losses. No goals scored. Nine goals conceded. Sitting in the bottom three alongside newly promoted Norwich City and Wolverhampton Wanderers, with all three teams yet to register a point.

There have been very few positives to take out of any of the matches, and one of the main concerns of Arsenal fans is that they have spent a serious amount of money without greatly strengthening the starting eleven.

England international defender Ben White cost £50m from Brighton and Hove Albion. Last year’s loan signing Martin Odegaard cost £34m from Real Madrid in a permanent deal. Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale set them back £30m from relegated Sheffield United. Add to that £20m for Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu, £15m for Anderlecht’s Sambi Lokonga and £8m for Benfica’s Nuno Tavares and you’re looking at a significant outlay.

But how many of those players will make an impact this season? Can Arteta afford to plan for the future when his current status is up in the air? Will another manager come in and want to rebuild again?

These are all questions that are yet to be answered, but one thing we do know is that nothing less than three points will be acceptable against their next opponents Norwich, but how much time will that buy Arteta.

We’ll just have to wait and see…
