After Mesut Ozil signed his big contract extension in February, the next piece of contract business for Arsenal to work out are the Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere contract extensions. As of recent times the Gunners backroom staff has been pretty poor with managing contract lengths, just look at the Alexis Sanchez and Ozil sagas. It is therefore no surprise that they are struggling to get Ramsey and Wilshere to sign up as well. Wilshere will be able to walk for free in the summer while Ramsey still has a year left, but the question is, who is more important for them to extend?

Both players joined the first team in 2008, with Jack coming up through the academy and Ramsey being bought from Cardiff City. However, Ramsey played a much bigger part in that season then Jack did, making 22 appearances while Wilshere only made 8. From then on they were partners in the midfield when they were both healthy.

As injuries have affected both players throughout their careers, it is quite obvious that Wilshere has had a much more difficult time then Ramsey. The Welshman has had small problems that have affected him throughout seasons, whereas Wilshere has had multiple season ending injuries either at the beginning or in the middle of campaigns, often leaving him on the sideline with plenty of time to check the Grand National start times or work his way towards his coaching badges.

Comparing the 10 years with the club, The Welsh international has made 130 more appearances throughout all competitions and has also scored 40 more goals then Wilshere. Ramsey has also scored two winners in two FA Cup finals.

However, a main difference between the two players is that Jack is a Gooner through and through and is a fan favourite. Ramsey is loved at the club, but Jack will always be a son of Arsenal and seem to be held in such a high favour. Wilshere is also considered a leader within the team and is possible team captain should his future continue at Arsenal.

Keeping all of these facts in mind, if the Gunners could only keep one of these two star midfielders, I believe that it has to be Ramsey. Although he has had plenty of injury problems throughout his career, he is far less prone to very long term injuries unlike Jack. Ramsey has proven himself a goal scorer and someone who can help Arsenal win important games. His runs into the box from a midfield position are something that have been very useful for the Arsenal attack and they are better with him in the side. Therefore, Ramsey should be their priority when it comes to extending contracts.
