Reports have emerged today that Juventus midfielder and alleged Arsenal target Arturo Vidal may be on the verge of signing for Bayern Munich. Arsenal became linked to the player and were said to have made contact with the player’s representative, but 101greatgoals.com asserts the club discontinued their interest after the player’s now infamous DUI scandal.

No deal has yet been announced by either Bayern Munich or Juventus or the player himself regarding any transfer deal, and while Arsenal’s apparent u-turn hasn’t been proved either, it is perhaps for the betterĀ Vidal won’t be moving to the Emirates.

Fantastic footballer this lad is, but in truth he would have been an expensive luxury. Bringing in another box to box midfielder would have been a slap in the face to Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere. Ramsey and Wilshere are the future spine and core of our club, they are in important stages of their maturation and need now to continue playing and impacting regularly.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has also been making the transition the a deep central role lately, and stiflingĀ the growth of any or all of these players would have been a huge mistake.

The lad’s off the field issues are also a cause for concern. Again, whether or not Arsenal discontinued their interest because of the DUI is yet to be determined, but they would have every right to do so to be fair.

This isn’t the first time alcohol has gotten the better of the player, as Vidal was once disciplined for arriving late to training after a long night of partying and drinking. He had several other disciplinary infractions as well and perhaps he is a little too volatile for Arsenal.

Take nothing away from the player’s ability on the pitch though, and this is not to say that Arsenal would not have benefited from signing the player. He was just not the best choice nor was this the right time.
