Why Wenger must do everything he can to tie down the Ox

Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is reportedly growing increasingly frustrated by the situation surrounding his new deal and his place in the side.

Wenger had claimed that talks with the England international had commenced, however, according to The Mirror, to Chamberlain’s annoyance, no such talks have taken place.

Furthermore, the 23-year-old, who has 18 months remaining on his current deal, is becoming irritated by the amount of time he gets on the pitch. When he is handed a start the winger is usually one of the first hauled off for a replacement.

With the former Southampton youngster, who was linked with a move back to his former stomping ground during the summer, having already admitted that a move may have to be something he must consider in order to progress his career, Wenger is now faced with a call to make.

With everything going on regarding the deals for star duo Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, the gaffer must take a minute and realise why he simply must had ‘the Ox’ a new deal…

Desire

The England international plays with his heart on his sleeve at all times, a trait which cannot be valued high enough.

It is rare you get players nowadays who play with such drive and desire for their side regardless of the opposition or their stature in the side. Chamberlain may not be the most gifted in the side but he gives as much as, if not more than the rest.

Age

Having arrived as a highly rated youngster from Southampton in 2011, it seem’s like Chamberlain has been around forever.

However, at just 23-years-old it is easy to forget that the winger is still a young player and has a lot to learn still. He has proved time and time again that he’s got what it takes.

We don’t want to be looking back two or three years down the line having let a real gem go when he hits his prime.

Strength in depth

There aren’t many Arsenal fans out there who would put the Porstmouth born winger in the strongest starting eleven this season, but that doesn’t matter.

If the Gunners want to be successful on all fronts going forward then strength in depth is a must, and there aren’t many better wingers to turn to as a ‘Plan B’ than Chamberlain.
