Jack Wilshere has defended Arsenal’s integrity in response to Troy Deeney’s criticism.

Deeney launched a scathing attack on the players following Watford’s 2-1 win over Arsenal last Saturday. The Hornets skipper claimed Arsene Wenger’s side lacked “cojones” making it easy for him to play well.

Wilshere has played down Deeney’s comments and says there’s nothing wrong with Arsenal’s character.

“As a player if your attitude is questioned, it’s horrible,” said the 25 year-old.

“I don’t think the comments were justified. All we can do is perform.”

“I look around this team and you can’t question our character,” said Wilshere.

“People try and put us down, they always have.

“We did certain things wrong at Watford but we certainly didn’t want to let the lead slip. We will move on.”

Arsenal have lost three out of their first eight in the Premier League this season and are already nine points behind league leaders Manchester City.

The Gunners have put the Premier League on hold as they turn their attention to tonight’s Europa League clash with Red Star Belgrade.

A win would see Arsenal take charge of Group H.
