Jack Wilshere claims he is no closer to securing a contract extension at Arsenal.

The midfielder who earned his first Premier League start in the Gunners’ 0-0 draw at West Ham on Wednesday has just six months to run on his current deal.

After spending almost the entirety of his football career in North London, Wilshere is hopeful of extending his stay at the Emirates.

However, 25 year-old has revealed that nothing has changed in his contract situation and he remains focused solely on keeping his place in the club’s Premier League team.

“No, there’s no update on the contract – we’re in the same position as we were two weeks ago,” Wilshere said (via the Guardian). “Nothing’s changed. There’s not really a date in the diary [for talks].

“I’ve only read what the boss has said in the media. I’ve just played my first game in the Premier League. I’m concentrating on staying fit and staying in this team. That will look after itself. When it’s the right time to talk about it, I’m sure the boss will call me and we’ll have a chat.”

The midfielder claims this festive fixture pile-up is the most important time of the year. With Arsenal having dropped to 7th in the table, the Gunners have a quick chance to recover at home to Newcastle on Saturday.
