Wolves are in pole position to snap up former Arsenal target Thomas Lemar.
The Atletico Madrid winger has failed to live up to expectations since his move from Monaco in 2018.
Lemar has appeared 15 times for the Atleti, but is still yet to register a goal or assist for the La Liga club.
Should he be sold this month, Atletico will demand a chunk of the £51million fee they paid Monaco just 18 months ago.
According to Mundo Deportivo, despite interest from the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham, Wolves are leading the race to sign Lemar.
Nuno Santo’s side are flying high in the Premier League and have reached the last 32 of the Europa League.
France international Lemar will be excited by Wolves’ progress but it’s the club’s special relationship with the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes which is why the West-Midlands side are leading the chase.
Mendes – known as the ‘godfather’ at Wolves – and has brought several former Atletico players to Molineux already, including Raúl Jimenez, Jonny Otto and Diogo Jo.
