After joining Arsenal back in 2006 at the tender age of 16 from Southampton, big things were expected of Theo Walcott. The England international’s electrifying pace means he is always a threat for defenders, but some have questioned whether he can be consistent throughout a season – although injuries have played a part in his somewhat stop-start career with the Gunners.

The forward has made more than 200 appearances for the club – 198 in the English top flight – but he has not yet performed consistently over a number of seasons. At first he was put out wide by the Arsene Wenger, and his crossing often did not challenge the opposition’s defenders. When he was put more in the middle Theo seemed to be happier in that role. Walcott has often expressed his desire to be the main striker in the team- with him having Thierry Henry’s former shirt number, there is that added pressure. It remains to be seen whether Walcott can become a legend in the striker position.

Some argue that he has yet to fulfil his potential, he has scored 70 goals in just over 200 appearances. His best season in terms of goalscoring was the 2012/13 season, where he scored 21 goals. His goal scoring record for the club is not bad, but it isn’t brilliant. Sometimes he looks clinical, when other times he can miss guilt edged chances.

Another factor has been the amount of time spent in the treatment room throughout his Arsenal career, as he has sustained injuries which have prevented him from playing a lot of games consecutively. If he managed to stay injury free for a long period of time, he could perform more consistently. Arsene Wenger has been very cautious in playing Walcott since his return from injury. In his first start since his injury back in January 2013, he scored after less than 90 seconds in the FA Cup win at Brighton; he looked dangerous in this game and the defenders seemed to panic when he was on the ball.

Theo Walcott has the potential to be a legend for Arsenal, but for this he needs to remain injury free for a period of time. The more playing time he is able to have will mean he will be more consistent, and his finishing would improve as well. To become a legend he needs to perform, especially in the big games and in important matches. At his age there is still time for him to improve and become a club legend.

Walcott is by far a very good player but due to the different factors u’ve highlighted in ur write up which are indeed true,so my opinion is dat he could come out good for arsenal but been a legend for the club is what I doubt very much.

No one is disputing your support of WS, however my (and I hasten to add, most of the fans’) angst with him is his cockiness bothering on sheer arrogance! Pride they say goes before a fall. Let him stew a wee bit before he is let back into the fold.

    That’s all
