Mesut Ozil played the full ninety minutes for Germany yesterday in their 1-0 defeat to to Republic Of Ireland, which ensured that Group D of the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign will go down until the final games this weekend.

Shane Long’s 70th minute goal sank the world champions, who now need a result against Georgia on Sunday to seal their qualification for next summer’s European Championship in France.

A dramatic result for Ireland, and a blip for Germany as only their second defeat in the past 41 qualifying matches, here we’re going to take a look specifically at Mesut Ozil’s performance.

WhoScored gave Ozil a 6.6 match rating for the game, with the German having a staggering 5.9% of the game’s possession all to himself with 80 touches. However he struggled to get going in the final third, though boasted a pass completion ratio of 92%.

Toni Kroos and Jerome Boateng were the only two players that started the game to better that number, whilst Ozil was successful in one of his two attempted dribbles- though he was tackled just twice throughout the ninety minutes.

Although his numbers show good form, Ozil will be aiming for a more direct contribution in Sunday’s game with Georgia, where Germany will look for a victory to seal their spot in next summer’s tournament.
