Arsenal have been given a free run at reported target Jose Luis Gaya, after the player refused to pen to paper on a contract extension. The 19 year old Valencia left back has three years still to go on his current contract, which has a buyout clause of £13million.

Valencia has approached the player with a new deal, which will keep him at the club for a further three years while raising his buyout clause to £29million. Gaya has refused the terms of the new deal leading to Valencia reportedly withdrawing their offer.

Speculation of a move for the player is now ripe, with several clubs reportedly interested. If reports are to be believed, Arsenal could go ahead and match the player’s current buyout clause this summer to prize him from Spain while Real Madrid is also interested.

Gaya is a talented young footballer, possessing good crossing and finishing ability particularly for a left back. He broke into the first team at Valencia in 2012 aged just 17 and has now made the left back spot his.

He is a bit like our Hector Bellerin, albeit not nearly as quick of course. With Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal already vying for the position though, it is unknown how serious Arsenal’s reported interest really is.

Wenger should move fast if he is indeed interested in the player, as the 19 year old’s stock is sure to raise over the next few years.

Driving Arsenal to success?
