Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has leaped to the defence of his former manager Arsene Wenger, saying he believes Wenger did indeed attempt to sign more players this summer. Now a Sky Sports pundit, Henry responded to a disgruntled section of Arsenal supporters, saying it is not as if the boss declined to search for reinforcements in the first place.

Speaking to Sky Sports new HQ, Henry commented on Arsenal alleged links with Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema as well as the transfer window in general.

“I don’t know if the boss was after Benzema, but the player has to want to come also”. said Henry. “What are you going to offer a guy who is leaving one of the best teams in the world, knowing that he is playing there?”

“I don’t think he didn’t want to bring anyone in, that would have been a different story if he really said ‘I don’t want to bring (another player)’ but he said if it can be done then I will try to bring someone.”

“But how do you get Benzema from Real Madrid when he plays there, and Cavani also from PSG, he scored at the weekend again.”

“It’s a difficult one, I don’t think he didn’t want to bring anyone, he wanted to bring players we know but it didn’t happen.”

Henry is spot on for me, and I believe the boss did everything in his power to bring in another striker. Wenger spoke this morning about United’s transfer of Martial from Monaco, saying such a hefty price for a teenager sums up what is a stagnant transfer window at the moment.

The frustration at no new signings is understandable, but some perspective is needed as well. What’s done is done, there is a long season ahead for our beloved Arsenal and it’s best we switch our focus back to supporting the team.
