Do Arsenal need a striker this window? No. Not really. Would I like a new striker at Arsenal this window? Yes. If Messi wants to join The Arsenal, he’s a striker. But I think we all know the chances of that is minimal. I’d take a Lacazette or a Cavani, however.

We’ve let go of three forwards (temporarily for now); Joel Campbell, Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo. None of them were getting regular playing time, hence why they left to get some minutes in. So the only reason to buy a striker is if a player has become available that is better than what we have already.

Can that happen in January? It’s rare to see it happen. There’s always talk of a player looking to leave, especially ones with their contracts almost up. But players (instigated by their agents) like to make up stories in order to get to make their current club big fat pay rise on their already inflated contracts. The Yaya Toure please stand up.

Swansea City’s Bafetimbi Gomis looks like a decent striker, he’s strong, good in the air and has a reasonable good shot on him. But if he’s not good enough to start for Swansea when Wilfried Bony was around (no offence to Swansea, nice team) then he’s not really good enough for us is he?

With three out, Chuba Akpom is right up the pecking order and I’ve heard great things about him. He’s a talented youngster. There’s room for playing time and signing a striker will push him back into the youth team, which will make his decision to leave Arsenal a lot easier with his contract up in the summer. The only player out of three loaned out that looks likely to leave permanently is German striker Podolski, so the possibility of having that many strikers, as well as signing another, there will be at least two unhappy bunnies.

The window in January is saturated and there are other areas of concern that needs addressing. We still lack a world-class striker, something in which Danny Welbeck & Olivier Giroud don’t provide, but I believe that can very much wait till the summer, where teams will be more open to negotiations and there will plenty of time in which to get it done.
