News was doing the rounds yesterday that Arsene Wenger rejected an approach from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window for Mesut Ozil.

Rumours should, of course, be taken with a pinch a salt, however, as rumours go this is about as believable as they come regarding the fact that a lot of German national side play for the Bundesliga side under Pep Guardiola.

Our record signing has been continually lambasted from football stadium to football stadium, media outlet to media outlet as they all continue to fit their preconceived agendas.

Anyway, the reports also suggested that Arsene Wenger’s loyalty and refusal to accept that Ozil was basically a flop prevented Arsenal signing former Gunner Cesc Fabregas, who would’ve returned to the Emirates had Ozil departed for the Bundesliga.

One of Le Professeur’s greatest qualities is his loyalty to his players but, at times, it can be one his most frustrating qualities. However, when it comes to Ozil, it borderlines on ignorant to suggest nothing but loyalty keeps the German at Arsenal and in the starting line-up.

Ozil hasn’t been helped by the form of Cesc Fabregas across London and things certainly haven’t been eased with new arrival Alexis Sanchez’s ridiculous workrate compared to Ozil’s languid and, almost, carefree style of play.

The former Real Madrid playmaker is clearly only suited to playing as a No.10 but when you’re one of the top five No.10s in the world that doesn’t matter.

This certainly isn’t a case of Wenger’s pride preventing him doing the ‘right’ thing; this is a case of Arsene Wenger working out the best way to utilise one of the players that any manager would love to have at his disposal.

But, as news has just broken that our German superstar will be out for up to three months, that plan will have to be put on the backburner.

One response to “Does pride stand in the way of selling THIS Arsenal ace?”

Let’s forget Ozil .He won’t help team .Guy has little work rate & and this blind loyalty by Wenger will harm team performance . He is not good enough for EPL .Its better to sell him while there is someone who needs him . Wenger should look for quality not quantity . Team has too many average & below players who are no match against top teams in EPL & Europe . Two centre backs , DM & top striker are urgently needed otherwise team would finish outside top 4 .Wenger has run out of ideas & can’t compete with young managers like Mourinho .
