I find it a bit strange that our title challenge collapsed because one of our cb got injured last season.


2016 half out starters were injured but Wenger got abused for not winning the league despite coming second with one of the worst injury list of the modern era.

Because in today's game, at least since Pep has come in, you need your key players available to compete with City. Same thing happened to Liverpool, who went from 99 points and league winners in 2020, to 4th in 2021, after just losing VVD.

Only City can get away with losing De Bruyne or Haaland and still win the league.

That's not true. The sporting/technical director and sometimes owner plays a much bigger part in contract negotiations than the manager does. Completely reasonable that Gazidis (or someone else above Wenger) laid out their plans for the future and RVP thought nah this ain't it. Happens at every club, especially for their top players.

The manager is way less involved in contract negotiations and transfers than you'd think, depending on the club of course.

That's not how it happened though. Apparently RVP went to Gazidis with like a 7 point plan (One of which was apparently signing Affelay which would have been a total disaster). Its one thing to have a dialogue, but if you are telling the club how to run things, you had better be irreplaceably good.

Why are you acting like getting 71 points in 15/16 isn't a massive fail? It got 2nd place because all the top teams were in turmoil. It was the season we should of won the league if our management was competent. We failed to win the title against Leicester City FFS. I love Arsène but we were a sh1tshow by this stage and he created the kindergarten environment that led to the acceptance of mediocrity.

There was loads of ambition. They’d borrowed up to the hilt to build a brand new stadium. Now the debt is no longer a problem we’re reaping the benefits of that sacrifice today by being a buying club instead of selling club to richer teams.

Agree with this and it should be remembered that the bar has shifted again as we still can't really compete with financially doped clubs. The Mudryk transfer is the prime example.

Not only VVD, they also suffered from 6-7 simultaneous injuries during the 20/21 season, particularly in defensive positions. Ultimately, they were lucky that Leicester collapsed during the run in, to reach top four.

Name me one team whose performed better with that many injuries? It was disappointing losing the league to Leicester, but when you have several starters and backups sidelined simultaneously for months, you're bound to struggle.

Wilshere, Rosicky, Gnabry, Arteta, and Debuchy practically missed the entire season. Additionally, Cazorla was out from November until May. Coquelin, Ramsey, Welbeck, Walcott, and Chamberlain all faced setbacks ranging from 3 to 5 months that campaign. Koscielny also missed a significant number of games.

Yes, it was ultimately a frustrating year, but try being objectively for once in your life. The only reason you mention a kindergarten environment and mediocrity is because that's the exact narrative the media propagate about us, causing anxiety among fans and dividing the club. They've been doing this for over 100 years.

They purposely target Arsenal because we're the biggest club in London, and they don't want us to achieve sustained success like Liverpool, United, or Celtic up in Scotland.
