What I saw the other day sickened me. I witnessed an old man trying to board public transport in peace, only for this well presented gentleman to be hounded with abuse by fully grown men; it actually turned my stomach, that people could behave in such an intimidating and hostile manner towards the elderly – or anyone for that matter.

I’m of course referring to *that* video doing the rounds of Arsenal fans booing Arsene Wenger as he boards a train from Stoke on Trent to London; that video confirmed to me that this is certainly anĀ all-time low for me as an Arsenal fan.

What is this divine right us fans, more to the point, us Arsenal fans seem to think we have just because we bought a ticket? I don’t care if you buy a ticket forever amen, you have no right to shame our great club; it stood long before us and it will stand a damn sight longer than any of us.

I appreciate – well, I hope – the actions of those in the video weren’t reflective of the majority, more an ignorant minority.

Before I sign off this post, in a sort of related note, I have found it surprising that Le Professeur can no longer seem to buy time; we had three wins on the spin, and yet the meltdown was always bubbling under the surface. Not even when Wenger delivered what us fans wanted – a trophy – did that bring any respite for the Frenchman.

Are a number of Gooners just simply growing bored of Wenger’s tenure? Maybe they want to lose in a different way? I don’t know, I’m just throwing things out there.

As always, UTA!

No more patience for Wenger. Fans have to make him understand. He now feels we re booing the team ! (we’re not we’re obviously booing him personally). We get nothing but repetition under his Outdated and inflexible ‘one strategy football’, that any experienced manager can counter simply by playing full defensive and countering on the wings. Everyone needs to stick together now to push him out. The sad thing is his ruined any reputation he ever had. Arsenal NOT Arsene. *throws rotten egg at him*

Whilst I can’t condone those fans actions the club has not responded to more appropriate calls for change over the last 5 years! At the AGM dissenters are not allowed to speak and social media is ignored. It therefore feels to many fans more vocal action is required as suffering in quiet has resulted in Groundhog Day !

I am sorry but the club is beholden to the fans. Chelsea is different it is one mans whim take it or leave it. Arsenal is now a business first and a club second. The fans are the customers and have a right to complain if the service is poor which it is and has been since 2007.

If you received a poor meal at an expensive restaurant would you complain or sit like a mouse saying oh well expensive rubbish food but The Ivy has been here for years so what right do I have to complain ?

If the club wants to stop this embarrassing in fighting they need to engage in dialogue and take steps to rectify the obvious problems. Going into the season with the defence squad we have is gross incompetence end of. Wenger should have gone in May with thanks now his stubbornness will result in ill feeling shame

It is painful to see how le prof. was treated but is also hard for we the fans to see how this great team of ours is falling from grace to grass….Wenger really needs to stand up….Arsenal till I die

I think it is a part of every fan base that there be hate and bile. What I think is good is the numerous Arsenal bloggers who are reasoned and passionate and fair. I love the prof and I have to believe Arsenal and he have a plan. I mean who do these hateful fans want to be our manager? What is their alternative?

Too many Arsenal fans have failed to see that Wenger only won so much 15 years ago because he inherited a great defence. Since they all retired he has won almost nothing. He had pissed another season down the drain by 1st September 2014. He has coaches who know a great deal about defending eg. Steve Bould but (like Pat Rice before him) Steve has to be a YES MAN. From inside the club I promise you the coaches and medics disagree with much of what Le Dictator does but can do nothing to change it.

You need to brush up on your Arsenal history mate. Are we talking the “great defence” that finished 4th, 5th, 10th and 12th in the 4 seasons prior to Wenger? And which of the Cole, Campbell, Toure and Lauren “Invincibles quartet did Wenger inherit?

  7. Sover says:

@Chris – the Invincibles defence was created by Wenger – it’s a myth that he only won trophies because of what he inherited. The only first choice player Wenger did not bring in was Bergkamp.

How, pray, were are people able to tell that those are arsenal fans? Is there any proof? Why can’t it be that it was Stoke fans? We do know that they like to taunt Wenger and he stayed seated throughout the game to avoid giving them a chance to abuse him. How do we know it wasn’t them?
