England ran out convincing 4-0 winners over Lithuania in yesterday’s Euro 16 qualifier. Three Arsenal players were named in the squad for the Three Lions, most notably Danny Welbeck who won man of the match honours for his performance.

Welbeck was superlative yesterday. Granted it was against Lithuania, but fantastic stuff from Danny regardless. Really took the match by the scruff of the neck, scoring one and creating one. Sensational bit of skill to create some room for a shot which was parried by the keeper into the path of Rooney who nodded in the rebound for the opener.

Welbeck then added England’s second, redirecting a header beyond the keeper courtesy of a deflection. He nearly had another assist as well, but his low cross was just knicked away from Sterling at the far post.

United must be regretting letting him go more and more each day, as his linking with Rooney and Carrick looked telepathic at times. Theo Walcott played the final 14 minutes of the match, and didn’t really get much going. He looked threatening on a few occasions with his speed in behind but never really cause the visitors any problem in his short cameo.

Kieran Gibbs unfortunately was an unused substitute, while Oxlade-Chamberlain and Wilshere surely would have made the squad if healthy. All in all a decent showing for gunners on international duty. The most important thing is that nobody picked up a knock ahead of the return to league play next weekend. Hopefully everyone remains unscathed after midweek’s friendly with Italy (and Gibbs get to play).

Fair play gunners.
