As much as we hate to admit it, Chelsea look scary good. They look the the favorites the title, which is evident by their lead at the top of the table. But exactly how good are they? Would I go as far as to say they are on par with Arsenal’s 2004 invincibles? Arsenal bias aside, I would still have to say no. It is much too early to make such a statement, plus I have a hard time comparing the two sides player for player. The Invincibles have an advantage being that their achievements are already set in stone.

It is easy to say that Costa will never reach Henry’s tally of 175 goals (although he could if he continues at this rate), and that nobody in the Chelsea midfield will ever live up to Viera, and so on and so forth. I did see a lot of vulnerability in the Chelsea side during Sunday’s match that wasn’t present at Arsenal in 2004, but again that could be the Arsenal bias in me. Lastly, the Premier League has grown exponentially since 04 and the level of competition is risen drastically. Every match is difficult in this day and age and I fully expect Chelsea to lose a few matches, either to big teams or to smaller sides (on a Chelsea off day).

Let’s look at the combined XI for the two sides.

Lehmann, Cole, Terry, Campbell, Lauren, Vieira, Fabregas, Hazard, Pires, Henry, Bergkamp

Petr Cech would have been my go to a couple years ago, but as the current Chelsea side stands Lehman gets the nod over the young Courtois. Ashley Cole, despite how we feel about him now, was an absolute rock for us back then while you couldn’t go wrong with any of the four centre halves. Lauren is an obvious choice to me over Azpilicueta, while there was never any doubt over Viera and Henry. Hazard is the better footballer than Ljungberg painfully so, but Chelsea has nobody to usurp Bobby Pires. Berkgamp vs Costa I’m sure will be debated heavily and I expect there to be some backlash from any Chelsea supporters (or anyone who dislikes Arsenal) for this decision, but for me Bergkamp just gets the nod.

NO, This Chelsea Team has a big weakness that a great team will expose. The Defense line. Terry is not the fastest defender in the world while Matic is a completelt left footed midfielder who has benched the full right footed Mikel. Trust me, They will drop some points this season and you will see the errors at the back even much more. Ivo at the right back is already known for his overlap; so just wait for it. Some team will capitalize on the short comings. Sad that AW is not flexible. Would have defeated Chelsea last week or gotten a draw. Watch how Basel beat them home and awy. Then you see how slow Chelsea is.

The epl of 2 day is much dynamic.Am sori 2 say chelsea cant win all their matches.if players lyk hazard, febregas, costa get injuried,i might jst say it seems over 4 d blues in all competition.

    Ivanovic /Lauren?
How Lehman is in the team, when he was never even considered top 3 GK in the world. Courtois is already considered as the 2nd best GK in the world (behind Neuer)

But let me guess he is not “premier league proven”?

Can’t see Chelsea go the season without defeat. Such events occur only once in a life time.

Oh my god bergkamp is the best player in that team and widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time and your saying he “just” edges costa…..laughable tbh

I am an ardent fan of chelsea. Going unbeating is something I will cherish forever. However, I don’t really think we can go unbeaten. But I believe chelsea will win the EPL this season.

unbeaten is hard but I believe we can do it, let’s go blues.

lauren over ivanovic????….lehman over cech???….campbell over Cahill?….is this a joke??????..besides hazard and pires both play LW so hazard should get the nod over him….on the RW its btw ljunberg and shurrle….and i tink the german world cup winner should also get the nod…..and ur decision to pick bergkamp over costa witout any reason clearly shows how biased ur selection was

listen yawwll, both gooners and chelsea blues alike. Whoever made up this daft silly question about cfc winning the title unbeaten after only 8 games is abit mad isnt it?. Ask the same question in April for gods sake. Can cfc do it? Of course they can, but its alot harder now than Aresnal did it due to the quality of all teams in the premier league. Big test will be on sunday, we have no costa, no remy, no ramires, no schurrle. didier will probably start but i have to admit his legs have gone!. He looked knackered last night in our 6-0 win. Time will tell eh?
