Ahh, Alexis Sanchez. What. A. Man. What. A. Player.

The man who, like Mesut Ozil the previous summer, gave us all that lift and that belief that, finally, we were back to challenging for the Premier League crown.

Yet again, it wasn’t to be, however, that doesn’t mean Alexis Sanchez hasn’t been an absolute revelation since joining from Barcelona. If the Chilean were to not register a Man of the Match award, assist or goal for the rest of the season, he’d still make most ‘Team of the Seasons’ – well, anyone with a little bit of common sense.

Since the turn of the year, Sanchez has cooled and Arsenal have looked better but that is merely a coincidence as all sides in the Premier League could do with a Sanchez in their starting XI – still surprised there was never any interest from Man City given their lack of width and pace.

With that being said, the former Udinese man has begun to frustrate yours truly in recent weeks, especially in the two-legs over Monaco; he has this playground ‘hogger’ mentality that, when comfortably dispatching of teams, is exciting and entertaining. However, it can infuriate and hinder the team greatly when we are up against it and have a deficit to overcome.

In recent weeks, our midfield has had a more attacking feel to it, which means our wingers have had to think more about their defensive contributions than they would usually – perhaps this has also contributed in the Chile international’s drop off?

After the international break, we return to the Premier League against Liverpool and, although a massive game – a win would surely cement a top four finish for another season? – I wouldn’t be against Alexis having to make an impact from the bench (although you’d hope we wouldn’t need him at all).

Perhaps you should become a PL manager; you clearly know more than Wenger

Great player, but needs a rest, and to challenge himself. No use of humiliating other possible winners, if he’s not at his best.

Maybe. Depends on how much he will be used by Chile. Yesterday he was rested for the first half and played the 2nd. If he gets a similar treatment vs Brasil at The Emirates then he should start vs Liverpool. However, if he plays (close to) the whole 90 minutes then Wenger should be tempted to bench him. If Ox is back I would play him and use Özil or Welbeck on the other flank.
