If reports are to be believed, Arsenal already has a deal in place to bring Sami Khedira to the Emirates in January. The deal is said to be worth £11 million, an absolute steal for a player of his magnitude, and would represent a real coup for Arsenal. Khedira’s fall from grace at Madrid has been widely publicized, and the Spanish Giants are said to be willing to sell for a cut price to avoid losing the player for free in the summer. Gooners will be absolutely delighted with the news if these reports indeed true. If they are premature, we would be disappointed to miss out on the player unfortunately but alternatives need to be assessed nonetheless. Here are the top 5 alternatives to Sami Khedira.

  1. Morgan Schneiderlin

The Southampton man was massive last season and has continued his progress this year. He was disappointed at not being allowed to leave during the club’s exodus this summer but seems to be enjoying his football now. He is much more physically imposing and mobile than Arteta and Flamini while also possessing excellent technical ability. Added to the fact that he is not cup tied in Europe and has Premier League experience makes him a no brainer.

2. William Carvalho

The Portuguese was also a mooted target for the club this summer and I particularly rate the player. Robust doesn’t even begin to describe him, and his tracking back and closing down is truly a thing to watch. He has also added goals to his game recently, chipping in with several long range blasts for Sporting Lisbon.

3.  Geoffrey Kondogbia

The Monaco man was an absolute terror against us in this summer’s Emirates Cup, breaking up the play and making himself a menace. He loves to get stuck in and will also brake quickly into attack once he has the ball at his feet. He is another player I like to compare to Yaya Toure, for his combination of skill and power.

4. Maxime Gonalons

A player I really rate. Gonalons is extremely underrated and undervalued in world football. The Lyon captain is just 25, but plays with the calm and composure of the most seasoned veteran. His ability to facilitate and retain possession is truly remarkable and I think a bid large enough will prize him from Lyon easily.

5. Adrien Rabiot

The youngster has been linked all summer and although I think the lad is one for the future, he is my last choice compared to those mentioned above. Rabiot has some growing to do and could do it with Arsenal under Wenger’s tutelage. His skill set and ability suggest his learning curve will come sooner rather than later and he could be a real coup for Arsenal in the long run.
