Arsenal great Charlie Nicholas says he is sure Arsene Wenger will enter the market for a goalkeeper, and says he will target a big name shot stopper. Speaking to Sky Sports, Nicholas said David Ospina is not quite ready for the number one role.

“My opinion is that Wenger will go into the market but the only area he’ll be considering is a goalkeeper,” he said.

“David Ospina is a decent goalkeeper but decent goalkeepers don’t win you titles. If an opportunity for Cech, Casillas or Valdes comes up then they have to take it.”

Spot on from Nicholas, however the inclusion of Victor Valdes came as a bit of a surprise. Arsenal should absolutely target Cech over Valdes. The Chelsea legend is one year younger and five inches taller than his counterpart, while also possesses vast amount of invaluable Premier League experience.

That isn’t to downplay Valdes, as he is a legend in his own right, having racked up 387 league appearances for Barca and winning everything to is to win. For me though, Cech is a different class. Valdes has shown some defincies in his positioning and reactions, particularly in the latter stages of his time at Barca, and I’m not sure he is really worth the investment (assuming he becomes available in the first place).

Cech has never showed any real weaknesses, always commanding his area and getting finger tips to balls that most other keepers simply cannot reach. He is still top 6 or 7 in the world for me and would instantly strengthen the side. There is no comparison between Cech and Valdes as far as I am concerned.
