Thierry Henry said it best on Sky Sports last night; Arsenal’s win over Tottenham is massive, huge.

Not only for the immediate spirit and confidence going into this weekend and the campaign ahead, but for the reputation of the club on a whole.

Capital One Cup or not, a win over bitter rivals is always a joyous occasion, especially are bitterest rivals of them all. As my fellow gooners well know, the North London Derby is more than a clash between close neighboring clubs. It represents a feisty rivalry rich with history and tradition.

It is another battle in the war for North London, and a war that Arsenal has mostly won. More than three points are at stake (or in this case passage into the next round) when these sides meet, it is a chance to stake claim of North London, at least until the teams meet again.

A win or loss is in this fixture is the difference between feeling whether or not you have sufficiently defended your turf. Turf meaning North London, and a loss would have felt like Arsenal let it down. That is not the case of course, and the lads will be absolutely buzzing.

For that reason, there is nothing at all sweeter than victory over Spurs, and for Arsenal and Wenger in particular it continued the trend. Last night’s win made it 6 out of the last 9 clashes with Spurs for the boss, and a total of 22 out of 46. It is a phenomenal record against the Spurs and the win went some way to preserving that.

In the immediate future, it snapped a two game losing skid and puts the lads in good stead for this weekend’s Premier League fixture with Leicester.

As for the latest installment of an ongoing and never ending war; North London is red! COYG!
