Arsenal right back Carl Jenkinson finds himself in a difficult position at the moment. After an impressive loan spell with West Ham, he returns to the Emirates to compete with potentially three candidates for his positions. One of which, Hector Bellerin, is three years his junior but has shown he is a real player and one for the present and future.

Then of course there is the starting right back for France Mathieu Debuchy who will most likely walk right back in the XI when he returns from injury, and not mention the big money newcomer Calum Chambers also waiting in the wings.

Jenkinson will have quite the task on his hands if he is to earn minutes on the pitch, and while some would argue there is no room for him at the club, for me Wenger should hold on to the player. Jenkinson is really coming into his own as a player and maturing well. He could still do a job and could come in handy down the stretch. Arsenal surely could have used him this season during the many injury crises.

Besides, Debuchy isn’t getting any younger (he turns 30 next month) and is coming off of two serious injuries, he may begin to tire sometime down the line. As for Chambers, he seems to be developing more rapidly as a centre back and may get the nod as the fourth centre back in the squad.

A culmination of those two things for me warrant Jenkinson staying at the club. Push comes to shove he can always undergo another loan, but offloading him altogether would be a mistake for me.

What do you think gooners? Should Wenger keep or offload Jenkinson?

I’d keep Jenkinson or laon him out for one more season, I don’t see longevity in Debuchy so it’s important Arsenal have good premier league experianced right backs,to step in when Debuchy leaves.
