After recent performances, you would forgive Arsenal fans for questioning Shkodran Mustafi’s capability.

In fact both Laurent Koscielny and Mustafi have been poor of late. The pair conceded twice against PSG and were let off in the end by a profligate Cavani.

Before the international break, it was Koscielny who left a dangling leg for Dembele to tumble over and win Sp*rs a penalty in the North London derby.

Koscielny, who looks to be on the verge of signing a new deal, is without doubt a top class centre-back. However the jury is out on whether as a pair, the two will be a ‘top drawer’ partnership.

Of course, it’s still early days in Mustafi’s Arsenal career and there can be no doubt that the German needs more time to properly settle himself but if he doesn’t show at least some promising signs, Arsene Wenger may be forced into the market for another central defender.
