Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been identified as Barcelona’s next manager after current boss Xavi leaves.

THE LOWDOWN: MIXED ARSENAL TIME

Mikel Arteta has enjoyed relative success since his appointment in late December. The Spaniard’s first eight months produced two silverware, while recent months have not been the best of his time at the Emirates.

Arsenal missed out on a place in this season’s Champions League last season, but made a return to Europe via the Europa League. However, it has been a different Gunners’ side this season as they currently sit at the top of the log after 12 games.

The North London outfit looks like a side set for a return to the UCL next season and there is a rumour in Arteta’s native country Spain about a move to Barcelona as a manager.

THE LATEST: BARCELONA LINK

Barcelona have lined up a potential future move for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta with the Catalan giants reported to be impressed by the Spaniard for some specific reasons.

Arteta has been at the Emirates since 2019 and has a contract with the Gunners until 2027.

A report emerged from SPORT suggesting that Arteta could be the number one candidate to become Barcelona’s manager in the future. Xavi is currently in charge at Camp Nou, and despite successive Champions League group stage exits, the club’s great is expected to remain at the helm, according to the report.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are considering acquiring Arteta for a number of reasons with one of them being that he learned his coaching craft under former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola.

THE VERDICT: UNFINISHED  BUSINESS

Mikel Arteta has unfinished business at the Emirates and leaving in the next few years might not be possible.

Having only extended his contract at the club in May, he currently has five years on his current deal and given the work he has done this season, you expect him to continue at the Emirates for the foreseeable future.
