According to a report, Arsenal are set to make a move for Barcelona star Memphis Depay in January.

THE LOWDOWN: SEARCH FOR ADDITIONS

Arsenal have been impressive this season, leading the rest of the Premier League with five points after 14 games. Mikel Arteta and the rest of the team’s hierarchy are working on getting quality players in when the next transfer window opens after a largely successful summer business.

Several names have popped up and previous targets have been linked with the Gunners again. This is to show that Arsenal are not leaving any stone unturned ahead of a defining campaign.

A new report has now emerged that the Gunners could be interested in a former Manchester United forward.

THE LATEST: DEPAY’S LINK

Premier League leaders Arsenal are interested in signing Memphis Depay from Barcelona in the January transfer window, according to a report in Spain.

As reported by Spanish outletĀ Fichajes, Memphis Depay is the subject of interest from Arsenal over a possible move to the Emirates in the January transfer window.

Memphis Depay has fallen down the pecking order at Barcelona since the arrival of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha this past summer. The 28-year-old has featured only three times for Barcelona this season, scoring once.

His decision to leave Barcelona in the January transfer window cannot be debated; and it seems Arsenal are looking like a side ready to offer him an escape route.

Depay, who has previously featured in the Premier League for Manchester United, is off to the World Cup with the Dutch National team. A strong performance in Qatar could help his cause and that might lure Arsenal into making a formal approach.

THE VERDICT: PATIENCE

Depay is good on his day but his age currently knocks him off as it does not align with the team’s current transfer strategy. Meanwhile, Arsenal should be patient enough till after the World Cup. The break will help the club and its hierarchy to make the right decision before the window opens officially in January.
