Arsenal are set to reignite interest in PSV winger Cody Gakpo in January, according to fresh reports.

THE LOWDOWN: PRESENT TRANSFER TALK

Highly-rated Dutch forward, Cody Gakpo, was one of the few players that were linked with the Gunners for a while all through the summer. His exploits in the Eredivisie have not gone unnoticed. However, there has been a huge competition for his signature.

Manchester United were big on him and he could have joined them – something he confessed to some weeks back – while the Gunners pushed for his signature.

He has started this season in fine form and talks have started flying again that the Gunners could be back for him but will once again face stern competition from their Premier League rival.

THE LATEST: REIGNITE INTEREST

Arsenal could make a move for PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo in the coming transfer windows.

The Dutch star faced the Gunners in the Europa League last week, but barely made an impact; the two sides meet again this Thursday, and the Dutchman will be keen to impress one of his potential suitors.

Now, Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has revealed that Arsenal could look to sign Gakpo in January, though a summer move is more realistic.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Arsenal is an interesting one because, throughout the transfer window, I think the right side of the attack was a priority position. Now, Gakpo’s priority position, and preferred position, is on the left, but he can play in the centre, and he can play on the right.

“At the moment, Saka’s occupying that right side of the front three just now. He would be someone that Arsenal would look at. I think it would fit the profile as well, as far as Arteta is concerned, because we know that he’s trying to build a squad of young players who’ve got high ceilings and high potential. So it could be one that Arsenal do look at in January, potentially, but the summer is more realistically.”

THE VERDICT: DIFFICULT SITUATION

Gakpo did confirm he nearly left for Manchester United in the summer and that could be significant going forward. It means the Premier League side have the advantage ahead of Arsenal, so the Gunners might need to double their work in order to land the winger.

Whether he moves to either Arsenal or United remains to be seen, but it’s certainly one transfer to keep an eye on in the coming windows.
