According to reports from Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, Fenerbahce are preparing a bid for Arsenal defender, Pablo Mari.

THE LOWDOWN: NO PLACE AT THE CLUB

Since joining Arsenal in 2019, initially on a loan deal from Flamengo before signing a permanent deal, it never looked like Pablo Mari would have a long-term career at the club.

With just three appearances during the loan spell and 16 in all competitions in the 2020/21 season, where he signed a permanent deal, he failed to catch the eye. He has often been seen as too slow for the Premier League fast paced tempo and he has had significant moments of struggles.

The lack of trust in his ability was further evident when Arsenal opted to sign another left-footed center back In Gabriel Magalhaes. The Brazilian easily took Mari’s spot, proving to be a more solid defender all round.

Mari’s loan spell in Italy with Udinese was relatively successful, as he has attracted significant interests across Europe since then. Hellas Verona have shown strong interest, with Fenerbahce being the latest suitors.

THE LATEST: TURKISH DELIGHT

Fenerbahce have been quite active in this transfer window, with new manager Jorge Jesus looking to revamp the team.

They have parted ways with former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil and Ozan Tufan, while they have brought in Emre Mor, Lincoln, Joshua King and Bruma, among others.

After significant incomings in attack, the manager is looking for defensive reinforcements. Pablo Mari has been identified as a good option in that regard, but an official bid is yet to be made.

THE VERDICT: A WELCOMED DEVELOPMENT

Transferring players surplus to requirements out of the club is almost as important as bringing in more players in the remainder of this window.

With William Saliba’s return from loan, Arsenal are well-stocked in the center defense area. Rob Holding is also in the squad as a backup, leaving no room for Mari.

The best deal for the Spaniard and the club will be for him to move on on a permanent deal. He gets to enjoy regular football, while Arsenal will get rid of a player they don’t need anymore. In the end, it is a win-win situation for all parties involved.
