Arsenal are reportedly planning a late swoop for 20-year-old Montpellier striker Elye Wahi amid his superb form in Ligue 1.

THE LOWDOWN: WINTER BUSINESS

The Gunners have been quite active in the final weeks of this January transfer window. They have already made two signings in crucial areas of the squad and at least one more signing is expected before the end of the month.

The defensive midfield role remains a priority following the injury sustained by Mohamed Elneny recently but it appears the Gunners are also looking at adding another striker to the side.

A youngster in France has been identified and it seems the North London outfit could make a late move for the striker.

THE LATEST: LATE SWOOP

Arsenal are keen on making a late move for Montpellier striker Elye Wahi.

The 20-year-old has been quick to make an impact in Ligue 1. He scored ten league goals last season and this term he already has seven goals in 18 appearances.

The Gunners are reportedly interested in him and have been keeping an eye on his progress since the start of the season.

Despite the absence of Gabriel Jesus due to injury, the Premier League leaders have thrived with Eddie Nketiah scoring aplenty in his absence – He has four goals in his last five Premier League games.

Although they recently added Leandro Trossard to the squad, French outlet Foot Mercato are reporting that Arsenal and Tottenham ‘continue to follow him’ and they have been ‘aroused’ by his performances.

Wahi is under contract until 2025 and the report suggests that it will take an ‘incredible last-minute offer’ to take him away from Montpellier this month.

THE VERDICT: INDIFFERENT

Gabriel Jesus’ return is just a few weeks away and the addition of Trossard to the side means that there’s an extra option in attack for Mikel Arteta. Going all out for Wahi could serve the club now and not after this season comes to an end.

Folarin Balogun has continued to light the Ligue 1 and he is expected to return to the Emirates in the summer. Arsenal and Arteta should focus on bringing in a new midfielder before the window closes.
