According to reports, London rivals Chelsea have entered the race with Arsenal for the signing of Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.

THE LATEST: FAILED PUSH

Arsenal pushed to their limits on the final day of the summer transfer for the signature of the defensive midfielder after an injury crisis struck the camp of the Gunners.

However, the Premier League club rejected all offers. And despite the Brazilian entering the final year of his contract at the Villa park and his willingness to join the North London outfit, the club still did not accept either of the bids made.

In the past few weeks, the Gunners have reportedly set their sights on going out again for another midfielder, which could still be Luiz, Tielemans, or an old target in Manuel Locatelli.

THE LATEST: NEW CHALLENGER

Premier League rivals Chelsea have now joined the race for Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, say reports, after Arsenal’s failure in the summer to sign the Brazilian.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Chelsea could come in for the midfielder’s signature when the January transfer window opens.

Villa wanted £40 million from Arsenal for the Brazil international over the summer, but as it stands he will be able to make pre-contract agreements with other clubs at the start of the new year.

THE VERDICT: DECISION TIME

Arsenal went all out for his signature in the summer but the club did not yield. Besides, he was simply coming in as a short-term solution at the time and will have ended up as a squad member upon the return of Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny.

On the other hand, Luiz looks perfect for Arsenal with his profile and Premier League experience and Arsenal may have to examine all the other options available before agreeing to a deal with him.

In addition, there is Youri Tielemans, who is highly coveted by the club and the fans, who could join the North London outfit for free as well.
